Ouidah does not wait
for the month of January.

The Vodun Year

Every season
has its depth.

FEBRUARY – MARCH

Dry season · Deep immersion

Ideal period for intimate meetings. Bokonons are available. Convents welcome visitors. Benin's dry heat, ideal for contemplation.

APRIL – JUNE

Transition season · Earth ritual

The great agricultural ceremonies. Rituals tied to Sakpata and the earth. Abomey and its royal palaces without the crowds.

JULY – AUGUST

Peak season · Ouidah Festival

Regional cultural events. Grand-Popo in its green season. The lagoon at its highest level. Natural spaces at their best.

SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

Season of the spirits

Egungun ceremonies intensify. The returned ones are present. A period of high spiritual intensity for those ready to receive it.

DECEMBER

Preparation · New year

Vodundays preparations begin. The convents get ready. An ideal period for a pre-Vodundays retreat.
