The memory of Ouidah.
At your pace. No friction.

The Cloboto Tour connects sites no one else links together, the Slave Route, Vodun temples, colonial quarters, the Door of No Return. Three circuits. Logistics handled end to end by ONG Wa Afriki.

ONG Wa Afriki Initiative · Ouidah

The Cloboto Tour, a circuit spanning
5 centuries of history.

Ouidah is not a city you understand on foot, by taxi, or in a private car. It reads like a book whose chapters are scattered across several kilometers, the slave trade, the return of the Brazilians, the colonial forts, the living Vodun temples, the sacred forest, the beach of No Return. Every site has its own roots, its own weight, its own precise meaning.

The Cloboto Tour is the thread that connects them. Designed and operated by ONG Wa Afriki, it links these sites in the right order, with the right commentary, in the four languages that match our audience, French, English, German, Spanish. The circuits currently run in guided vehicles. The physical train, in development, is the next step. See the investor file →

Distinct circuits

Permanent circuits

Two levels of access.
One city that can't be replicated.

The Ordinary Circuit is available at all times, for any visitor. The Vodun Circuit is only accessible through ONG Wa Afriki's mediation, access to the temples cannot be bought. It is earned.

The core route

Ordinary Circuit

2h · Available daily

The Slave Route in its entirety. From Vasseho, the city's historic entrance, to the Door of No Return facing the Atlantic. Between the two: Auction Square, Zoungbodji, the markets, the colonial forts. Continuous commentary, French, English, German, Spanish.

  • Vasseho, entrance to the city
  • Chacha Square, Auction Square
  • Zoungbodji, captives memorial
  • Python Temple, Dangbéhouè
  • Sacred Forest of Kpassè
  • Portuguese Fort · French Fort
  • Door of No Return · Beach

Vodun Circuit

3h · By reservation

The circuit that exists nowhere else. A journey through Ouidah's active Vodun temples, convents, altars, deities. Every temple has its guardian, its code, its welcome. You enter because ONG Wa Afriki spent years building that trust. No other way.

  • Temples of Legba, guardian of crossroads
  • Zangbeto convent, guardians of the night
  • Temple of Mami Wata
  • Altars of the Fon deities
  • Convent of the Hounon tradition
  • Temple of Dangbé, the royal python

Event circuits

The circuit that follows
the rhythm of the city.

Twice a year, the circuit adapts to the ongoing event. Ouidah is not visited the same way during Vodun Days as the rest of the year. The Cloboto Tour follows that logic.

January 10th Section, Vodun Days

During Vodun Days, the Cloboto Tour follows the rhythm of the ceremonies. Access to official sites, privileged placement, live commentary on processions and rituals. The guided convoy becomes your mobile viewing point, you miss nothing.

CIO Section, Special Events

For Ouidah's major cultural gatherings, the circuit adapts to the program. The routes, the highlights, the sites: everything is restructured around the ongoing event.
