In January, accommodation in Ouidah is taken by storm, and many visitors end up sleeping far from what they came to see.

We made another choice: you sleep at the Palais d'Agondji, the Palace of His Majesty Dada Daagbo Hounon Houna II. In the morning you wake up in the courtyard, and the day begins there.

It is not a hotel and we do not sell it as one. It is a tent, mats woven in Ouidah, and the privilege of being the guest of the house.

What awaits you on site

A red-earth courtyard under a large tree, between painted white walls, in Ouidah
  • In Standard: an individual tent, with mats woven by the craftspeople of Ouidah.
  • In VIP: a large tent, with a lit space.
  • Both workshops are held on site, under the mango trees of the Palace.

What we really offer: to be the guest, not the customer

Any agency can book you a room. None can have you sleep in a royal palace of Ouidah. The NGO Wa Afriki obtained this access through years of trust, and it is not sold from a catalogue.

On site, you cross paths with the court, you greet, you exchange. Both workshops, the language and the Fa, are held under the mango trees, a few steps from your tent.

The price is per night, per person. Meals and transport are taken separately, or are included in a package.

Why there are not many places

A palace is not a campsite. The number of tents is limited by the courtyard itself, and package travellers are already settled there.

À la carte nights are those that remain. If you are staying several days, look at The Programme, from 4 to 10 January: nights at the Palace are included.

You are in a house of tradition. You are given the customs on arrival: that is also why the workshop on language and customs exists.
