The promise
Central Benin condenses two forms of grandeur. That of kings, first: in Abomey, capital of the Kingdom of Dahomey, above ground with the UNESCO-listed palaces, and underground in Bohicon, where the underground city of Agongointo reveals the warriors' hidden military engineering.
That of granite, next: in Dassa-Zoumè, the forty-one hills rise toward the sky, between panoramic hiking and the fervour of the Arigbo grotto. A short, dense circuit that blends human power with the power of stone, ideal to extend a stay in the south toward the interior.
The UNESCO royal palaces, the restituted treasures, the truth about the Amazons.
The underground city of Agongointo, the hidden engineering of the Dahomey warriors.
The 41 granite hills, the Arigbo grotto, the cults of the heights.
Surface and underground
In two days you see both faces of a warrior civilisation: the royal palaces and the hidden military caches. Few circuits connect the two.
Accessible height
The Dassa hills hike sets to your breath. You need not be a climber to overlook the Beninese plain.
The sacred respected
Near the Idaasha sites, what can be shown is shown and the rest kept quiet. Access follows the rules, never as an intruder.
Abomey, Bohicon, Dassa. Three to four days between palaces, underground shelters and hills. We adjust the pace and stops to suit you.
Indicative, adjustable itineraries. Duration and stages fine-tuned with the Wa Afriki team to match your calendar and interests. No fixed price shown: every circuit is quoted on a bespoke basis.
