Private guide and driver in Ouidah

In Ouidah, a guide does not recite: they open doors. What you see depends on who walks with you. Here is how private guides and drivers work with ONG Wa Afriki, and what local transport costs.

Can you book a private guide in Ouidah?

Yes. ONG Wa Afriki provides a companion trained alongside the FRABO, historians and the guardians of the traditions. They do not just show: they connect each place to its meaning, explain what may be seen and what stays silent, and prepare your presence with the families and the elders. For half a day, a day or your whole stay.

Can you have a private driver?

Yes. Private transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle from Cotonou airport or your hotel, then the NGO vehicle on request during your stay. In the VIP format of the 2027 programme, a 4x4 with driver is assigned to your team. Outside the programme, indicative daily figures: private driver 15,000 to 35,000 CFA francs, 4x4 with driver 50,000 to 90,000 CFA francs. Since night driving outside towns is the main everyday risk, we organise every journey.

How much does a private guide or driver cost?

Indicative figures, per day: a private driver, 15,000 to 35,000 CFA francs (about 23 to 53 euros); a 4x4 with driver, 50,000 to 90,000 CFA francs (about 76 to 137 euros), for remote regions. The exact price depends on length, group size and places. For a full day with a guide, count from 100,000 CFA francs per person (about 152 euros), everything provided: meals, guide, transport and access to the sites. The price depends on the number of travellers and the city visited, and a discount on the total amount is granted for a group, set out in the quote you receive within 24 hours. Guide, driver and local transport are already included in the After Vodundays 2027 stays. A tip for your guide at the end of the programme, 5,000 to 10,000 CFA francs, is appreciated but never required.

And if I get around on my own, what does local transport cost?

The zémidjan, the local motorbike taxi, costs 200 to 500 CFA francs per ride in town. A car taxi, 500 to 1,500 CFA francs. Carry cash in CFA francs: euros and dollars are almost never accepted. For the road between Cotonou and Ouidah, and for any night journey, prefer an organised vehicle.
